The roots pump is a mechanical vacuum pump that works by means of two sole-shaped rotors that rotate at high speed synchronously, taking the gas away. The gap between the rotors keeps running at high speeds, making it impossible for the gas to return. Roots pumps often need to be used in conjunction with a front-mounted pump to pump the gas out.
